‘Tis The Season of Giving: Houston Ford dealerships announce to support education by donating 10,000 books to 100 local schools

Interview with Houston Texans Xavier Su’a-Filo
Happy December!
I love the holidays especially Christmas season. I believe it’s the one holiday, besides Thanksgiving, where we feel and see others giving back.

When I received the invitation to go to the official announcement of local Ford dealerships supporting 100 Houston schools by giving 10,000 books and hearing their pledge to continue to support education, it really opened up my eyes on something.

Most people worry about giving out toys during this season and trust me there isn’t anything wrong with that, but our children need to learn to ask to get a good book instead of a nice toy. Can you imagine what our community would be like?  Influencing our children to invest in their own education at any young age is the key to success. Education means more to me now as a grown up then it perhaps did when I was younger because I value the oppourtunities that have come my way thanks to my education. I never really considered myself to be smart and as a bilingual student I struggled more then others. But when you go to school and begin to see the impact that having an education has, you are empowered because the key to a future is in your own hands.

Seeing the faces of students from Shearn Elemantery School, which all students were miniorities, reciving these books and getting the treat to sit down to read with Houston Texan player, Xavier Su’a-Filo, was a treasure. These children with out knowing it received the best Christmas gift.

Thank you to Ford for inviting me and for investing and continuing to invest in our Houston communities as well as to Xavier Su’a-Filo from the Houston Texans for being so down to earth and helping make an impact in these children’s lives. (See my short interview with Xavier above)
